A frame built on your face

Four weeks pass between the first measurement and the handover. In between there is a sheet of acetate, a milling cutter and many hours with a file.

The problem is not you

Why bespoke

If your glasses slide, mark your nose or squeeze your temples, it is rarely your face. It is a frame designed for an average face that does not exist.

Two millimetres wrong on the bridge and all the weight lands on your nose. Two millimetres on the temple, and the frame drops every time you look down.

Bespoke means starting from those numbers and building the frame around them, rather than hunting through a hundred for the least wrong one.

What we do, in order

Six stages, all in the studio.

  • 01

    The measure

Lens width, bridge, temple, pupil distance and height, temple angle. Ten measurements in all, taken on your face.

    30 minutes
  • 02

    The shape

We start from one of the six shapes and correct it on your face: taller, narrower, a lower bridge.

    With you
  • 03

    The acetate

You choose the sheet by holding it to the window. Tortoiseshell, solid black, clears, more than forty colours.

    Over 40 sheets
  • 04

    The prototype

Before acetate we cut the shape in a test material. You wear it, look in the mirror, and we correct it.

    After 10 days
  • 05

    Cutting and polishing

The front comes out of a single sheet. Then the file, three passes of compound and the felt wheel.

    2 weeks
  • 06

    Assembly and handover

Hinges, centred lenses, and a final adjustment of temples and pads with the frame on your face.

    30 minutes

Before you book

The questions we get on the phone.

Do I need a prescription already?

No. If yours is less than a year old, bring it. Otherwise we examine your eyes in the studio, during the same visit.

What if I am not convinced at handover?

That is what the prototype is for: you approve the shape while wearing it, before we touch the acetate.

If anything is off in the measurements at handover, we remake it.

How long does an acetate frame last?

With normal use, many years. Acetate can be polished again and hinges can be replaced. A moulded plastic frame, once broken, is thrown away.

Do you make metal frames too?

Today we work in acetate, with metal hinges and cores. For full metal we will point you to a workshop we trust.
