Before the frame comes your eyesight
The examination takes forty minutes. We explain the result to you, we do not just hand it over.

Seeing well and feeling well are not the same thing
The point
You can read the bottom line of the chart and still have a headache by six. It happens when the prescription is right but the lens is badly centred, or made for a distance that is not yours.
That is why we ask what your day looks like before we switch the instrument on. Eight hours at a screen, driving at night and reading in bed call for three different lenses.
An optometric examination measures your sight and does not replace a visit to an eye doctor. If we see something that needs one, we tell you and say who to see.
What we measure and what we fit
From the examination to the finished lens.
-
01
Optometric examination
Acuity, refraction, binocular vision, near focus. With phoropter and trial frame.
-
02
Pupil measurement
Distance and height of each pupil, taken with your chosen frame already on your face.
-
03
Single vision lenses
One distance, far or near. Thin even on strong prescriptions.
-
04
Progressive lenses
Distance, screen and reading in one lens. Built on your frame and your posture.
-
05
Office lenses
A wide field between desk and screen. For days spent a metre from the monitor.
-
06
Coatings
Anti glare, hard coat, blue light filter, photochromic. We tell you which ones you need.

Progressives
If you cannot get used to them, we remake them
A progressive that bothers you is almost always badly centred, not wrong. We measure pupil height again with the frame on, and replace the lens.
You have sixty days from handover. It costs nothing.
- Centration repeated with the final frame
- Replacement within sixty days
- A reading and driving test before you leave
The examination, minute by minute
Forty minutes, by appointment.
-
01
Your days
Work, driving, screens, sport. And the glasses you wear now.
-
02
The measure
Objective and subjective refraction, one eye at a time and then together.
-
03
The trial
The new prescription in a trial frame. You walk, read, look out of the window.
-
04
The summary
What has changed, what we suggest and what it costs, in writing.
On lenses and the examination
Short answers to frequent questions.
How much is the eye examination?
€40. If you then have your lenses made here, we take it off the bill.
Can I have new lenses fitted to my own frame?
Yes, if the frame is in good condition. We check it first, because a tired frame can break during fitting.
How often should my eyes be checked?
Every two years for an adult, once a year after forty and for anyone wearing progressives.
Do you fit contact lenses?
Yes, with a fitting visit and a check after one week of wear.
And around the lenses
The frame matters as much as the prescription.

Forty minutes to see clearly
The examination costs €40 and comes off the price of your lenses.
